Lion at the supa

I was surprised to see this lion statue guarding a local "supa." Usually, I've seen these statues at Buddhist temples or public parks or in front of fancy restaurants or hotels.

The piles of stones were on top of the same building. I've also seen these at Buddhist temples, but not at little shops before. I forget the religious/spiritual symbolism behind them.
