The Red Cross

I read somewhere not long ago that Christianity increased by 700% in Korea in the 20th century. Of course, I can't vouch for the accuracy of that statistic. But I have been noticing red neon crosses all over the place. They're virtually identical to one another, except maybe in size. The churches they adorn are mostly smallish and nondescript (think bigger than storefront churches in the US and smaller than St. Patrick's. A lot smaller.) Going for a walk in my neighborhood in the evening I see maybe five or six. Taking the bus to Seoul I see many more, dotting the side of the highway. I'm not sure why neon is used for the crosses; it seems an especially unattractive design choice to me. But neon is used a lot here, so I suppose it's consistent.
