I've often had Koreans ask me about this tv show, wanting to know how representative it is of NY. Inevitably, I tell them I don't know anyone who can afford the lifestyle portrayed in the show--all that shopping and clubbing.
Anyway, two women in the nail salon told me they liked the show and I asked why. I was expecting them to say it was because of the fashions because women here are (usually) so into clothes and make-up, etc.
To my pleasant surprise, though, they said it was because they liked the characters' independence and ability to enjoy their lives. They said it wouldn't really be possible for Korean women to live that way.
