Sexy Monk Tour 2009 Part Two

Our weekend got the name "Sexy Monk Tour" because one of the hikers, Betsy, said she thought monks were adorable. On a previous temple stay trip she had told one of the Korean staff this and been warned "Monk cannot have girlfriend." Actually, the French photographer on our trip was Betsy's boyfriend, but a running joke through the weekend was Betsy's having a crush on the cute monks.

As it turned out, the monk who was our main guide at the Daeheungsa (www.daeheungsa.co.kr, the temple where we stayed Saturday night, in the village of Haenam) *was* adorable. His name was Moo In and he had a great sense of humor. He even spoke some English and had been in Chicago as a missionary for a year.

Here are some pictures of Moo In, taken by Jinna, our trip leader.

When he was roasting the green tea leaves that we picked, I was napping. It was almost noon and we'd gotten up at 4:00am for the meditation, so I figured I was allowed to nap at that point.

I forgot to mention--Moo In is a Stephen Colbert fan. And he thought I sounded British.
