Another friendly cabbie

Even though I do feel like an outsider in a rather closed society, I continue to have really entertaining interactions with Koreans who genuinely want to communicate even though we don't share enough language to do so particularly intelligibly.

For example, a couple of nights ago my cab driver wanted to know if America was dangerous. I figured this out because he said "Mi gook," which means America, followed by words I couldn't understand. When he could see that I didn't know what he was getting at, he repeated "Mi gook," but this time followed it with "bang! bang!" while pointing his finger like a gun at the window.

It was hard to answer. How do you say "Well, parts of the country can be dangerous, but most of it is quite safe." in sign language? In the end, I think he came away with the impression that Al Capone still rules Chicago.
