It's 11:00am on a Saturday. As I was having my coffee and settling in at my desk I heard a knock on my door. It was two Jehovah's Witnesses (actually, I'm assuming they were Witnesses but maybe they were another stripe of missionary unfamiliar to me) offering literature. Fortunately, I had the language barrier excuse for not having to talk to them. I pointed at the pamphlet and did my best "I don't understand Korean" smile and shrug. I did remember how to say "I'm American", which they seemed to appreciate, though it obviously wasn't a big revelation (so to speak). One of the young ladies started talking to me in Korean anyway, although I kept shrugging and smiling. Her partner then said "Next time I will bring you (the pamphlet) in English." I nodded and said thank you (I've noticed that this seems to be a good bet in almost any situation here). No need for them to know I was thanking them for leaving, not for offering to bring their literature in my native language.
And I thought I left this behind in Brooklyn.
