It's not just about feet.

There are public baths all over too. I've been too shy to go to one yet. Just dealing with the business aspect--the cost, where to put my clothes, how long to stay, etc.--would be a challenge because of the language barrier. Then there's the whole business of being not just naked, but naked and American (i.e. bigger and whiter), in front of all those strangers. I was saying to a student yesterday that I already get stared at in public here, and that's *with* my clothes on. I think I'll wait until I can go with my friend Judy.
