Hanging with the expats

Went to my first expat party this evening, in Seoul, hosted by an English teacher recruiter and her former pro baseball player husband. As I expected, there are a lot of very young English speakers working at "hogwans" (private English schools) here. Twenty-somethings from the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the U.K. A few fun things I didn't expect: a Canadian guy who wrote his philosophy master's thesis on feminist authors, and a former salesman from Marquette, Michigan. Both were also (pleasantly?) surprised that I knew anything about either of them (i.e., the names of the feminist authors and the location of Marquette).

I left just as the serious drinking seemed to be beginning and got a taxi back to Suwon. The female driver (first one I've seen here), probably in her 50s, said "bye bye" as I got out.

I could go for a serious drink right about now!

Headed to Montreal for New Year's - nothing so exotic as Suwon... but I'm sure to f*** up the French language anyhoo!

Miss you terribly! Now that the show is over I have time to talk!
