Going by their English nicknames, these are (from left to right) Julie, Angelica, Jasmine and Olivia.
The students from my program and I, along with my boss and the ever-present Darren, took a field trip to a place called English Village today. It's kind of a bizarre "edutainment" Disney-esque faux village where Korean kids go to be immersed in English for a day, or a week, or longer. It seems to be some sort of public-private enterprise.
Anyway, what struck me as particularly funny was the presence of fake bagels in the pretend kitchen where the kids learn English names of various foods, etc. These bagels were literally plastic (or some sort of artificial substance), whereas the "real" ones I've eaten since I got here just taste artificial but are meant to pass for the true article.
What's a NY Jew to do in English Village?
