Well, not too surprisingly, I got lost on my first trip to Seoul. It was mostly disappointing because I'd gone there to take a salsa class, so was really looking forward to that.
Anyway, there were some positive parts of the trip:
The hills here remind me of northern California--very lush and green and covered in mist
As I was starting on my way to Seoul (by bus) I saw a small store named "Coney Island." It wasn't quite clear what they actually sold, but it didn't look like Nathan's hot dogs. Also no Mermaid Parade or amusement park rides.
After not being able to find my dance class and getting hungry in Seoul, I got a meal at a fast food place called "Lotte World." There was a poster behind the cash register that showed a drawing of three animals, kind of like Winnie the Pooh creatures, and the caption on the bottom said "Booby."
Lotteria is not a place to play the lottery in the barrio; it's the name of a fast food chain here.
Young people wear t-shirts not just with the obvious big brand names in English (The Gap, etc.) but also NYPD and FDNY. Even "counter terrorism unit"
The middle school girls all seem to have the exact same hair cut--bangs across and straight at the bottom. Kind of a Louise Brooks look. I think it may be a required part of their uniform, but I'm not sure.
I found two more great websites for my interests--Korean vegetarians, and pet adoption!
